General Site Questions

Occasionally, the staff will need to alert the site of something. It doesn't happen often, but in order to limit the number of mass-pms that go out, the lesser vital information will be posted here. Often, the staff member in question will ask that those that read the threads reply to it, so that everyone is all caught up to speed.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

The Dungeons of Hogwarts are brilliantly assembled passageways under the castle. The dungeons are located alongside, and under the lake, giving it a perpetually cold chill to the air. Slytherins and Hufflepuffs, who reside here, may be more used to it than their classmates.

To enter the castle, one must go through the large oak double doors. This opens up into a very large room with a staircase directly across from the entrance doors. Outside of the Great Hall, the House Point hourglasses stand, signifying how many points each House has.

As you venture up the steps, the first floor you come to is, but of course, the first floor. In this floor, the main attraction is the Transfiguration classroom. Various tapestries line the walls, potentially hiding secrets, or just blank wall.

The second floor is usually the most clustered floor, given the entrance to the library and the various classes. A portion of the hall may be flooded with water from time to time, so one must remember to watch their step.

The third floor is a very robust floor, having its own air of integrity. Suits of armor stand at random around the hall, as well as glittering glass cases containing the most prominent of trophies to the school. Defense Against the Dark Arts is well fitted here.

The fifth floor of Hogwarts isn't too populated on a regular basis, mostly given that there isn't a lot of rooms of great interest within it. The hall has one large section of books, and several red armchairs strewn about.

On the sixth floor, you immediately know where you are, given the amount of limestone and runic symbols about. Where there are suits of armor in other floors, this floor boasts limestone slabs and granite pillars. Tapestries and paintings cover what is not rune-related.

The seventh floor is actually just a very long stretched hallway, with doors scattered about that lead to various towers. Along part of the stretch are windows that one can get a great view of the mountains that surround the castle.

The vast grounds of Hogwarts stretch as far as the eye can see. A dirt path reaches from the entrance gates to the front doors, weaving through the lush grassy plain. The Black Lake stretches around the school, leading up into the mountains. Students can often be found relaxing, if the weather is right.

Out of Hogwarts

This area is a magical shopping center, located behind the pub, The Leaky Cauldron. The street is lined with wizarding shops on either side, and the walkway is almost always filled with people, especially so on the few weeks before Hogwarts term starts. Through a side street, a shopping place with less of a good reputation, Knockturn Alley, branches off.

Knockturn Alley is a notoriously dark shopping center that used to be the hub of Dark Wizards. Since the fall of Voldemort, though, and the Ministry cracking down on anything suspicious, the alleyway has filled with empty shops and "out of business" signs. Very recently, shops have started moving in to the Alley, taking advantage of dirt cheap leasing prices. Shops found here are hardly of a grand scale, but still, a stones leap away from the dark shops that used to fill here.

Hogsmeade the only all-wizarding village in Britian, is mainly known for its shopping center. Hogsmeade was founded around the same time as Hogwarts. It is located at the northwest of Hogwarts castle. The village is made up of thatched cottages and shops, and has been said to look like a Christmas card in the winters when there is a fresh layer of snow.

Godric's Hollow is a village inhabited by both muggles and Wizards. Due to this, magical folk still have to be very careful about using magic in public. Famed as the birthplace of Hogwarts co-founder, Godric Gryffindor, it is also more recently famed as the village where Lily and James Potter lost their lives, and where Voldemort met his first downfall due to said attack. A number of notable wizarding families have inhabited Godric's Hollow, including the Dumbledores, Potters, and Hogwarts, a History writer, Bathilda Bagshot.

Ottery St. Catchpole is a Muggle and Wizarding town located in Devon, England. It was named after a Saint Catchpole, it is assumed. It is not a very busy town, hosting mostly residential homes. Wizarding families such as the Weasleys and the Lovegoods make up the more well-known wizard families.

The beautiful country of London is filled with many amazing things from the Ocean ports to the city shops. Farms stretch, as well as cities. The one main difference between here and the Magical areas is just that, these areas are frequented by a large majority of Muggles. Any Magical folk roaming here would need to be in Muggle clothes, and keep Magic to a bare minimum, so as not to raise suspicion to the Muggle residents.
